WHAT IS AN ESCAPE ROOM?
An escape room is a live-entertainment game that allows you and your team to be "locked" in a themed room that tests your minds on various puzzles, riddles and clues. They all must be solved in order to escape the room within an hour.

IS THE ROOM ACTUALLY LOCKED?
The main doors to Behind Locked Doors' escape rooms are NOT actually locked, as we want our customers with conditions such as claustrophobia, PTSD, etc to feel safe & comfortable.
HOW IS BEHIND LOCKED DOORS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ESCAPE ROOMS?
Our favorite part about our escape room is that we are unique!
1 - All of our games are designed and created right here by us, the owner & the manager. Not a single clue in any of our rooms is purchased from corporate game makers!
2 - We offer a lock bar in our lobby to test your padlock skills & discover where to align your codes. This bar contains ALL the possible locks you may encounter at our facility.
3 - The owner & the manager monitor & run the games themselves! The appointment is started by ensuring the game you selected is compatible with your team's prior escape room experience. We also explain the difference between linear games & nonlinear games as our more difficult room offers multi-step clues and multiple tracks of clues.
4 - When your team requires assistance in your escape room, the manager & the owner provide clues in person instead of over a screen so there is no technological miscommunication. Instead of just giving an answer when a group asks for a hint, we guide them to the right answer using the information they already know!
5 - After your escape game experience with us, we want your HONEST feedback, good and bad! Your recommendations could literally change and improve the games! WHAT THEMES ARE AVAILABLE AND WHAT ARE THEIR ESCAPE RATES?

Will my team & I have the escape room to ourselves?
The escape game you book will be exclusively for you & your team! That means no worries of playing with strangers!
However, the escape room facility may be hosting other teams in other escape game themes, so please be courteous to others.

What is Kidz only! and how is it different from your other themes?
Kidz Only! is a game designed specifically for children and their freeness & creativity in mind! Kidz Only is our most interactive room yet and reflects a price difference compared to our normal games. The price for participants is $25 per player with a 3 player minimum. This room does not allow participants over the age of 18! However, we recommend Kidz Only! players can read, write & do basic math. Kidz Only is the only game with a viewing window, which allows loved ones to watch the game as it progresses and even includes a riddle exclusively for those on the outside! A one viewer minimum is required to book Kidz Only! The price for viewers is $5 per person.

AM I REQUIRED TO MAKE A BOOKING?
Yes, Behind Locked Doors is open by appointment only, so a reservation MUST be placed!
WHEN SHOULD I MAKE MY APPOINTMENT?
We offer a variety of appointments available every day of the week! We recommend booking as soon as you can to ensure your game is reserved. We require 3 hours advance notice and our booking website will automatically reflect that time restriction. Click here to take you to the booking page!
ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS?
Behind Locked Doors does not have an age limit for players! However, we do have age restrictions listed below.
Children 10 & younger MUST be accompanied by at least one paying adult over the age of 18.
Appointments MUST be reserved by individuals over the age of 16.
Children aged 11 to 17 are NOT required to be accompanied by an adult. However, waivers must be completed for all minor children by an adult over the age of 18.
For the Kidz Only! theme, participants MUST be under the age of 18! We recommend Kidz Only! players can read, write & do basic math.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY Appointment?
We require your team arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment! If you or a team member are unable to make it 15 minutes early, please call ahead and inform the staff so we can accommodate your team accordingly.
Where can my team complete their waivers?
Waivers are 100% electronic! After your reservation has been made through the Book Now page, our waiver system, eWaiverPro, will send you an e-mail to forward to the members on your team. These waivers MUST be signed before arrival to your appointment and all players must have a signed waiver! Players under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate.

What If my team cannot make it to our appointment?
Through your email confirmation, your appointment can be cancelled up to FOUR hours OR your appointment can be adjusted up to TWO hours before your scheduled time. If it is past these timeframes, please call (217)777-8060 as soon as you are aware that you cannot make it! Once it has hit your appointment's start time, we will give your team a curtesy call. If we receive no answer within 15 minutes of the start time of your appointment, your group will be marked as a no call no show and the employee locks up and goes home. No call no show groups will be required to pay a deposit in order to hold their reservations in the future.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS
HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED?
Our current minimum is 3 players, although we recommend at least 4-6 players. We allow up to 10 players per themed room.
WHAT IF I have less than 3 players?
We want to be honest, less than our three player minimum often means difficulty escaping the room. However, appointments can be made for just two players for a fee. The "Couple's Exception" fee is $20 on top of our per person rate. Therefore, your total for two players & the fee would be $70 total. To book two players, on the booking page, select 2 players & 1 "Couple's Exception"!

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE THAN 10 PLAYERS?
We offer two solutions to teams with over 10 players.
Solution 1
If there are only one to three additional players, we can squeeze those players into the same theme. However, your team is consenting to being like "sardines in a can" and won't have much excess room to move around freely. To select this solution, complete your appointment online with the 10 player maximum and send a Facebook message to our page OR email [email protected] to let us know how many additional players your team will have.
Solution 2
Behind Locked Doors can run "competitive" games. Your group with over 10 players would divide yourselves into separate teams entering two different themes running at the same time and race against each other! To select this solution, complete your appointments online by scheduling any two rooms in your desired timeframe with the number of players in each desired theme. Send a Facebook message to our page OR email [email protected] to let us know your desired start time AND so we can ensure the escape room facility is reserved exclusively for your large group!

An appointment must total at least $70 in order to book. Any bookings scheduled below this minimum will be automatically cancelled by our booking system.

We prefer cash, however we also accept debit & most major credit cards!
Multiple ATMS are located near our escape room location, including First National Bank of Taylorville, US Bank, & Regions to name a few.
For nonprofit organizations, schools, & businesses, we can also accept check.

ACCESSIBILITY & PARKING
IS BEHIND LOCKED DOORS HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE & HANDICAP FRIENDLY?
YES! Our business is handicap accessible and handicap friendly. Our rooms are designed so that items can be easily moved if needed and wheelchairs are able to move about freely. For those who cannot stand for the full hour, we can provide a chair for your convenience!
With Kidz Only being our most interactive room, the theme offers ONE feature that is not handicap friendly - the rock climbing wall. However, accommodations can be made for children unable to interact with this feature.

You may park outside of our location along the side of our building on Market Street or diagonally in front of our main door entrance on Clay Street!

CAN I purchase GIFT CERTIFICATES?
Yes, we have gift certificates available for purchase! At this time, we do not offer electronic certificates & cannot accept payment online. To schedule a time to make payment & pick up your gift certificate from a game master, please go to the Book Now! page and select "Gift Certificates" and select the timeframe that works best for you OR message our Facebook page to schedule your payment & pickup.
