2016
In April of 2016, I (owner Tyler Frump) and my mother & advisor Pamela Moses flew to Orlando, Florida for Spring Break between my junior & senior year of attending Culver-Stockton College. We spent three awesome days visiting Universal Orlando Studios, mostly in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as I am a big fan of Harry Potter (listen, it was before everything with JK Rowling came to light). After the last day of exploring the parks to our hearts content, we decided to leave early and walk back to our hotel to discuss what else we wanted to do for our spring break together. It was within 30 minutes of walking that we happened across a location of America's Escape Game. We both were clueless what escape rooms were at the time, and after being convinced by the game masters, we attempted our very first escape game. To be quite honest with you, we sucked lol; we were told we were 40% from making it out! Regardless, we left Florida raving and gushing about our fabulous escape game adventure, but not realizing how monumental this new experience would become for both of us.
It wasn't long before the school year ended and I returned home to intern for a large agriculture corporation. At the time, I was a triple major in International Business, Accounting & Finance with a minor in Honors Studies, and when I applied for this internship, I believed it would help transition me into graduating and taking over my mother's international agriculture business. That year and summer everything I thought I knew changed. My style of working clashed with my internship's corporate guidelines and expectations and I was fired. After much panic that I had let myself and my family down by not fitting into the corporate mold, I found and secured a job working at Rogers & Hollands, a local jewelry company, as their office assistant and I began to learn that work could actually be...fun???
It was then that my mother sat me down to discuss my five year plan
I had failed in a multitude of ways throughout my life up to this point, and it was through those failures and the lessons learned from them that I could see possible success.
Earlier that year, I had lost my best friend to suicide and attending what should have been his high school graduation was a wake up call.
Life was too short to simply work your life away
I no longer desired to take over my mother's company, not because it wasn't a fantastic business, but it wasn't my passion
to be amazed by maze
